Meghan does make a good point: She's still the same character,and this presents a whole new set of challenges for her.

And they're setting up a whole mythology for how princesses are created? Sounds interesting to me.

So I think it's more curiosity as to how this will be handled as opposed to "oh god, this will never work." '

Cause who knows, maybe it could.

I'm personally just glad the issue has been laid to rest now, and we can just sit back and see how it unfolds.

Huh... After re-reading that, I feel a bit perplexed about it... Granted, this will not change how I feel about the news in general, but seeing how the announcement of it all can be broken down to how poor the communication of it is does make me question the canon mythos that will spawn from this episode... But, then again, I was never one to analyse the canon mythos of any show unless it was brought up in the show in some way, shape, or form... (So far, only Young Justice with the adding of time travel as an element to the show's overall story plot has had me question something like that, but I digress...)

Fair enough. Analyses of this kind is my stock in trade, actually. It does help that my fanfics had elements in them that got made canon twice. Three times, if you count OC similarities. I read the same source material the writers use (I presume, since otherwise I don't see where they're getting their info), so my perspective is different. Not better or worse, but different.

Incidentally, I clicked your username and was linked to a youtube page. Is that 'Welcome to the World' a reference to the Voltaire song of the same name?

Fun Fact: The Voltaire song became the second reference that I was implying in that statement... The first part of the reference is the reference to the main setting of the .hack (dot-hack) series, where the game that is always being referenced throughout the series is referred to as "The World"... Most people don't see both references, just one of them...

Change can be good. It keeps the show from becoming stale, and also allows for character growth. As long as it's written well and stays true to the essence of the characters (which it sounds like it has), then I'm okay with it.

Well, it seems that it's going the better way: Twilight remains herself. That's the most important point. If her character is not broken, if she remains herself, then it's all bearable. My love is safe. And now she will have wings, the virtues of which I have already considered extensively.
The question now is whether that castle thing will happen in the show. I'm really hopeful Twi will stay in Ponyville, myself.
It's also interesting how Meghan defines a "princess". This definition allows for other Mane girls to become alicorns too.

I was listening to this as this post went up. I guess the epic scale of the change is rather fitting.

As a side note, the header of the EW article is surprisingly similar to "I'm a princess!" from here.

The biggest issues I have with this are that it feels like something out of earlier-generation vapid, insipid range of things—the whole "She's a pretty princess now!" business, and that it feels unfair to the other five Mane mares, and seems to be sending the wrong sort of message with only Twilight becoming a princess while her friends aren't. However, the show crew managed to make Cadence good, so I think they can pull this off, and they can take something as superficially silly-girl-thingish as a sleepover episode and make it come to life in a highly memorable and enjoyable way. I think they got this. As for the unfairness, the definition of a "Princess" Meghan is providing does not make it feel as unfair as what we've been assuming, and overall feels more fair and a little bit more justified.

I was hoping they'd at least hold this off until season 4. It will be interesting to see how they continue the show. I can't imagine how, but they'll pull it off. I have faith.

It may be that some people have taken the pony to heart and matured since Derpygate. They would have exploded in whining before, but now they may actually refrain from hasty judgements.

The funniest thing to me is how everyone who is saying "I don't like Twilight becoming an alicorn", is how they're calling their chickens before they hatch. The more intense, creative and analytical commenter of this matter are the funniest.
