Trig Rant #7: Gravity Shifts

Character growth is the definitive backbone of Friendship is Magic. Even the action-oriented two-parters at the tail ends of a season sport massive growth in Twilight, the mane six, and their relationships that binds the show together, Canterlot Wedding not really withstanding (Seriously, “trust your instincts”? We all know the whole point of the season two finale was to unlock Twilight’s true form of Pinkie’s magic-mini gun).

Anyway, what the hay is this rant going to be about anyway? With MLP’s incredibly tight focus on slice-of-life character building and a healthy fifty-nine episodes under its belt, I fear one thing: a dead end to characters. How do the writers plan to backtrack and can they do it effectively? I guess we’ll see…

Head past the break for pony talk.

Trig Rant #6: Chillin' With the Villains

MLP Villains by ~OzHalagontor
My Little Pony round three is underway, and with two parters at the tail ends of each season, the villains are popping up like nobody's business! From Nightmare Moon to King Sombra, these top tier antagonists have played a huge role in Equestria's fate.

Bu how good were they and how do they rank among each others? From design to desires, it's time to decide which baddie exemplified the best MLP villain possible, and which ones fell flat for me.

The four characters that are up for consideration are Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis, and Sombra. Sorry Trixie fans, not exactly what I'd called a "villain".  Activate your clickage for my silly opinions!... This rant is long overdue.

Trig Rant #5 The Apple's Curse

Applejack is epic here. Read this fic.
CRISIS: Applejack by *StarlightSpark
Few characters in Friendship is Magic have been as underwhelming as Applejack on an individual basis. From Applebuck Season to The last Roundup, AJ has become more and more obsolete as a "mane" character.

Fortunately, I'm here to offer some advice on how to tackle her story in addition to my criticism  From the direction I think the writers will take to my personal envisionment of her star episode, I'm here to talk everything Applejack.

Head past the break to read about everyone's favorite orange pony. Unless your name is Radio. Then you probably worship an orange filly that hasn't even gotten an episode. Maybe I should touch on her soon *wink wink, nudge nudge*

Oh yeah... Applejack. Let's begin!

Trig Rant #4 A Canterlot's Writing

Now KISS
You're the Song of my Life
and my Love by johnjoseco (modified)

The season two finale was one of the most anticipated events of my entire life. Few releases have topped my anticipation levels for this pair of episodes back in April of 2012.

The question is: Did it deliver?

This isn't quite a review of A Canterlot Wedding parts one and two, but what I think went wrong with the two episodes. I'll still point out some of the positives as I go, but as a whole the rant will be on what didn't work.

Click here for a refresher on the season two finale. Enjoy yourself? I did. Now click "read more" for my labyrinth of logic. I know I've asked you to click so many things, but bear with me, this'll be the last one.

Trig Rant #3 Big Pants to Fill

The epitome of SWAG
Fancy Pants Wallpaper by BlueDragonHans
The show contains an abundance of high-class, Canterlot ponies that often seem quite stereotypical. However, does one of these ponies stand out from the rest and leave a different impression on the idea of upper class living? That’s what I’ll be making the case for at least.

Fancy Pants appeared in Sweet and Elite and that episode alone. Go give that episode a view if you need a refresher. Finished? Welcome back. Let’s begin with the over-analysation of a kid’s cartoon after the break.

Trig Rant #2 Mare Did Bad

Superhero Day at school is coming up... I'll be sure
to send in my pictures.
The Mysterious Mare Do Well by Raikoh-illust
How do you defend the most hated Friendship is Magic episode of all time? Very carefully. But being one of the six bronies that liked Mysterious Mare Do Well, I felt it unbecoming of a true ranter to hold out on this post.

Mysterious Mare Do Well was Merriwether William’s first go at lead writer for an episode of My Little Pony. Although her first script was marred by criticism, she went on to write Hearts Warming Eve and Dragon Quest, two considerably better received episodes.

Mare Do Well is largely shot down for its interpretation of not only Rainbow Dash’s character, but the rest of the Mane 6 as well.  That and a muddled message made Season 2 Episode 8 rather unfavorable for many of you bronies out there.

Head on past the break to see why I think you’ve all got it wrong…

Trig Rant #1 - What Does She Have to Do With Anything?

A relationship that deserves to be explored.
Another Side by CaineScroll

An in-depth look at Daring Do, the mare of adventure, the hero of a seemingly simple storybook, crafted out of the ingenious mind of an unknown pony author. The profound elements of her design are often over looked by viewers. Her badassery is clearly evident, but I thought it necessary to compile that into an editorial post anyway.

Head on past the break to read about how this pony's adventures, personality, and even her design contribute to the rich storytelling of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

You remember her from Read it and Weep, right? You don't? For shame... give this text a click to refresh your memory.

Welcome back. Now let's get started...
